My molds were successful - a Monarch parts set was pulled that I could then assemble and paint.
After cleanup, beard attachment, and priming, I painted the skin tones on the Monarch. There's about four shades used - it's very subtle, and will show up better when he's photographed correctly... currently, I have masked this area off and have shot him with gloss yellow, for the armor.

I made the Monarch's wings today.
That wraps up all the pattern work. I'm going to make molds this weekend, and then I can finally get a casting that I can paint and finish!
Oooof, I gotta post more! Here's a sculpt I've been working on this month. It's the "Monarch" from a cartoon called The Venture Bros.
I started off with a ball of tinfoil that I covered with Sculpey, creating a rough mock up to get the general shapes and scale down.
I then shaved off the detail, leaving a rough form, and baked it. I then coated the cured Sculpey with Apoxie Sculpt, sculpting some of the underlying features as the Apoxie cures in 24 hours to a rock hard surface.
I further refined the shapes, adding the beard and smoothing areas.
I then separated the beard (for ease of molding) and began constructing the crown.
Now all that is left is final refinements and smoothing of any rough spots! I hope to get this molded and cast in the next week.
