I have pretty much finished my first Monarch! Wings are laminated photo paper.
I will take "proper" photos against a sweep later in the week, after I add in the "eyes" on his breastplate logo, and gloss in the eyes/teeth!
I will probably redden/lighten the beard/eyebrows, as the brownish-red I made seems a little too dark.
All in all, I'm pleased. I opted for a wall-eyed look, so maybe I'll try a sideways glance next time. Here's a Coke can for scale:
I'll start on the Dr/ Girlfriend sculpt soon, but I have an awful lot to do between now and mid-July, deadline-wise, so she may have to wait a month or two. I don't want to rush her!
Waiting for enamel to cure to a rock-hard state is like watching a pot of water come to a boil.
Progressing nicely, but the wait on the yellow is agony! I redid the flesh tones, making him sicklier and more pale. Left a darker tinge around the eyes and the edges/undersides of the nose. I'll go back in and deepen the lips a touch.
The casting worked nicely though.
My molds were successful - a Monarch parts set was pulled that I could then assemble and paint.

After cleanup, beard attachment, and priming, I painted the skin tones on the Monarch. There's about four shades used - it's very subtle, and will show up better when he's photographed correctly... currently, I have masked this area off and have shot him with gloss yellow, for the armor.
More soon!
Oooof, I gotta post more! Here's a sculpt I've been working on this month. It's the "Monarch" from a cartoon called The Venture Bros.
I started off with a ball of tinfoil that I covered with Sculpey, creating a rough mock up to get the general shapes and scale down.
I then shaved off the detail, leaving a rough form, and baked it. I then coated the cured Sculpey with Apoxie Sculpt, sculpting some of the underlying features as the Apoxie cures in 24 hours to a rock hard surface.
I further refined the shapes, adding the beard and smoothing areas.
I then separated the beard (for ease of molding) and began constructing the crown.
Now all that is left is final refinements and smoothing of any rough spots! I hope to get this molded and cast in the next week.
Hi gang. Sorry for my absence as of late, but I've been finishing up some long term projects and a commission job that I had to keep off-line. Back to the show!
So besides the Cerberus I plan on building, I am using spare Pocher parts to make a smaller similar AI model, which I've called the Orthrus. I will have a build diary on my main site soon! Here it is so far:
I'm very excited. Today I received a very rare (and horribly expensive) model kit - the Pocher Rolls Royce Phantom II Torpedo. It's going to horrify car enthusiasts, but I'm gutting and hacking it up for donor parts to make a Maschinen Krieger design that Kow Yokoyama made in early 1983 - the Cerberus.
Other necessary bits, cannibalized from the engine, mostly:

Here's the original, which I had a chance to study last year, when Lisa and I went to Tokyo!

Hi gang, I have a whole slew of updates to post, so it should be a fun week or so! First up, I have been "building" some things out of model kit parts - these are modular, and will be joined to the main body soon (not shown).
The twin-boom shapes will have much more detailing done to them, once they are affixed to their armature!
Heya gang! I just received my seventh issue of Sci-Fi and Fantasy Modeler, a book/magazine (bookazine?) published four times a year, from the UK. I have an article about the updated Cylon Raider from Revell, which I did the box-top mock-up for. I also talked a little about the other Raider models I have made, so the reader can see the options available. I'm working on another article for their end-of-year issue.
That one will be on a Maschinen Krieger model (the one I was posting about earlier)!
